Our staff have a great depth of experience in coastal management. Our expertise has evolved as government policy has altered and we always aim to give clients up to date advice backed up by our reporting and design facilities. We have been involved in the development of coastal management over the past two decades when engineers have developed their original coast protection skills into a whole range of management skills. We have arrangements in place with like-minded companies to provide a complete service which includes both risk assessment and environmental work.
MWA have, in 2008, carried out a Strategy Study on Denbighshire CC’s coastline covering both Rhyl and Prestatyn.
This strategy considered all aspects of the management of the Council’s shoreline and produced a strategy taking Denbighshire forward to positively manage their coastline.
The strategy took onboard problems which existed with both coastal erosion and flooding from overtopping and produced a programme to address these problems in accordance with latest government guidelines.
We have been heavily involved in the preparation and execution of works around the coastline of Wales. These range from the development and design of a multi-million pound marina project in Aberdyfi to the development of coast protection works at Talybont, near Barmouth and at Llanfwrog, near Holyhead.
We have also supervised works to provide an interim solution to coastal squeeze at Abererch, near Pwllheli and carried out other, mainly report orientated work throughout the Principality and the northwest of England.
MWA are becoming increasingly involved in risk management as both Defra and WAG look to assess their future needs in this way.
We provide total water management services including environmental services creating sustainable solutions for both the marine and fluvial environment.

We have carried out a great deal of fluvial report and modelling work over the past decade. We are now also involved in dealing with risk as the industry moves towards this type of management. We now offer a total service which includes the design and supervision of contracts. Recent fluvial orientated contracts include the following: -
This scheme was designed for Flintshire CC and is due to be completed in 2008. It resulted from the severe flooding in northeast Wales in 2000, which affected vast tracts of this part of the Principality.
MWA prepared the project appraisal report, carried out the detailed design and provided consultancy service to the local authority during the construction phase. The scheme protects the lower part of the village and has used environmentally friendly construction techniques coupled with conventionally engineered work.
Many Feasibility and Project Appraisal Reports have been completed on both fluvial and coastal projects. We have gained a reputation for enabling our clients to progress their flood alleviation schemes both in England and in Wales.
We also carry out Flood Consequences Assessments and other reporting works on a variety of differing problems using our vast experience and technical expertise.
We can provide modelling services for most fluvial and tidal applications using a variety of current one and two dimensional software packages including ISIS and TUFLOW. MWA is fully conversant with current Flood Estimation Handbook techniques for the determination of fluvial flows.
